Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Hardwick

The Plough

2 High St, Coton, Cambridge CB23 7PL, UK – 01954 210489

After a long drive from the South Coast we stopped in to The Plough as it was fairly close to our eventual destination. We were greeted by the staff and shown to a table. The staff were very friendly and chatted while we got settled and checked the menu. They were clearly going to be busy later, but they still gave us their full attention. We both chose their beer battered fish and chips. It was superb and accompanied by a home made tartare sauce. Excellent service and excellent food. We would certainly return.

Since being taken over by the current owner, the place has been transformed for the best, and you now need to book weeks in advance to get a table on popular dates. Their award-winning chef is constantly updating the menu with great dishes, they serve nice beers, the staff is ever so friendly, and they have a large beer garden which is a great addition to the terrace in the summer. Moreover the slide and climbing frame is always a nice thing to go to with kids and a nice excuse for an alfresco snack and beer! Five stars doesn't do it justice!

The Blue Lion

74 Main St, Hardwick, Cambridge CB23 7QU, UK – 01954 210328

The food here is good, and a very decent price. As others have said, the waiting staff are excellent and able to cope with large groups as well as small. Best visited on a warm summer weekday when there's plenty of shady outdoor space to enjoy. It's pretty child friendly with good outdoor space and some play equipment.

Really good service, nice atmosphere really laid back. Food was good, but could've been a bit better.

The Three Horseshoes

High St, Madingley, Cambridge CB23 8AB, UK – 01954 210221

A lovely pub in a picturesque setting. The food is amazing. It is more expensive than your everyday pub food...but the food is much better than everyday food. I am always very impressed with the food and service.

Me and my girlfriend went here based on a recommendation from someone who I would describe as a "foodie", so we had high hopes. We ended up having a fantastic meal and the general dining experience was excellent. The food was full of flavour and very delicious, the staff were efficient and willing to help. Also, the place looked great and had a good atmosphere. We had starters, mains, sides, dessert and 2 glasses of wine which came to around £100 for 2 people. Overall, 5 stars for sure.
